This painting is an homage to one of my fondest memories while growing up, "Hey Mom, I'm headed down to the brook!" before leaping over the stone wall and racing through the woods to my favorite spot. Countless hours were spent building dams, catching dace and crayfish, throwing rocks at water striders, and digging for clay. I even found a quartz arrowhead once, made thousands of years earlier. While many of these visits were solitary, some of my best memories were made with neighborhood friends.
 
Still, I wonder what the brook looks like today,  but I have a hunch I might be let down knowing a lot of development has gone on there. So maybe this is one of those occasions where we let the memories be.
