#254 The Kraken (12x21 5/8") Acrylic and polymer clay on panel, maple frame. The main idea for this piece was to create an effect where the painitng pushed out of its flat surface and interacted with the frame itself. I wanted to keep the painting fairly loose and moody while allowing the legs of the Kraken to exit the 'surface' of the painting at unusual locations creating a surreal effect that is remniscent of veiwing into an aquarium. There were several challenges that had to planned out with a small study that allowed me to create a plan of attack, a list of steps that had to be done in a ceratain order to acheive this effect successfully. Even the frame was created right here in my studio from maple, I routed the profile and assembeld and painted it giving me full control over every aspect ofthe creation process. I hope to do more of these but for now this is my first edge breaker.
